About this book

A classic novel about the lives of three sisters, who after their father's death live with their mother at the whim of a distant relative on his estate. Two of the girls are of an age for marriage, and so they attract the interest of men in their surroundings. Against the backdrop of family dinners, visits, flirtations, and outings, two romantic stories unfold with a series of complications and misunderstandings. Both the more reserved older sister and the more impulsive younger one are spared neither disappointment nor tears, before their emotional problems come to a happy conclusion.
